On the 10th February 2017, Edna was involved in a road traffic accident which occurred at Nyanteh-Somanya in the Eastern Region.

She was on board a Sprinter Benz Bus on her way back to Somanya from Accra. The Sprinter Benz Bus was being driven by Kwaku Manu.

Along the journey and on reaching a section of the road at Akorley, a suburb of Somanya, Kwaku Manu attempted to overtake another vehicle. In the process, the back tyre burst and the vehicle somersaulted and fell into a ditch. Edna along with other passengers were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The driver, Kwaku Manu, feeling condemned within himself because of the death and destruction he had caused, committed suicide straight after the accident. The police discontinued its case against him.

Edna sustained severe injuries to her lower back, right arm, neck and a pelvic fracture.

While in hospital, Edna was in and out of consciousness for the first four (4) days. She had consistent flashbacks of the accident. She was further referred to hospital in Koforidua where she was admitted for a further week.  Due to her financial constraints, she sought the services of herbalists.

The medical report assessed her level of incapacitation at sixty percent (60%), with forty percent (40%) deformity.

Edna until the time of the accident was a beautician. Prior to the accident, she earned an income of a GH¢200.00 per day. In addition, she would also undertake events on a contractual basis. Edna did all this work alone without the help of an apprentice.

However, subsequent to the accident and her severe injuries, she finds it difficult to walk and engage in other activities. Her level of income dropped considerably. She now earns an income of GH¢40-50 per day.

Enda has two young children. Her children are four (4) years and two (2) years old. Edna fell into fear and panic as she could no longer take care of her children adequately.

With the help of accident claim consultants, Edna was informed that it was the responsibility of the insurance company to compensate her for the injuries caused by the accident and to pay her lawyers, if her claim was successful.

There was no need for Kwaku Manu to take his life.

Edna is using the money claimed to get her life back together even though life will never be the same again.
