As a responsible parent you may be paying child support to your former spouse. However, a situation may arise where you may believe that he/she is not using the child support to directly take care of the child.
Child support is used by the receiving parent to take care of the needs of the child. For instance, if you pay child support to your former spouse, your former spouse may use it to pay utility bills such as water, electricity, gas, rent etc. It does not directly go to the child but supports the child’s needs.
The receiving party is free to spend that money any way he or she chooses, as long as the child is being provided with the essential requirements of life such as food, shelter, school and health care.
The law does not require evidence from the parent receiving child support to do accounting as to how the money is being spent on the child.
